Saba receives grant to revitalize Queen Wilhelmina Park

The Island Government of Saba has received a grant from the BES Liveability Fund to revitalize the Queen Wilhelmina Park in the Bottom, adjacent to the Governor’s Mansion. This project was unanimously approved for a grant, based on a proposal submitted by the Executive Council to the organizations responsible for administrating the Fund namely, The Ministry of Interior Affairs and the Dutch Housing corporations with responsibility for social housing Woonlinie(Saba & St. Eustatius) and Aert Swaens (Bonaire) in the Caribbean part of the kingdom. The grant was given a positive advice because it demonstrated a clear relationship to field of social housing and aims to enhance the viability of the Island.
The Queen Wilhelmina Park has been in a state of disrepair for some years some now, and because of budget constraints the Island Government was unable direct any funds into upgrading and beautifying the area. Commissioner Zagers, who was instrumental into preparing all the necessary documentation for the request stated that he was extremely pleased with the outcome. “The Wilhelmina Park has needed attention for some time now. At a lot of work has been done in order for Saba to receive this grant and persons such as Bobby Zagers from Planning Bureau and Rolando Wilson from the Housing Foundation should be recognized for their efforts as well. We appreciate the cooperation from BZK and the housing corporations in making this project a possibility.”
In keeping with the terms of the grant the government along with Woonlinie, will develop and plan for the project management, supervision and execution of the project. There will also be a maintenance and management plan in place once the project is completed to ensure that the investment is conserved.

  1. This is a beautiful park with great potential. The trees are great and I love the walkway and gazebo. I t doesn’t need alot of work just some cleaning up and a few gardens. Its a hidden gem. I love to get lunch at My Store and eat it in the park. This would be a great place for weddings.
