Medical students held fundraising Holiday Concert

Saba University School of Medicine’s “Synoptic Clefts” Choir held a well received Holiday Concert outdoors at Topogigio establishment in The Bottom last Friday evening, reports the Daily Herald. Last year, the fundraising concert was held on SUSOM campus in the large amphitheatre. The students had big hopes that by holding this year’s concert at a local place, popular with residents in The Bottom, many more would attend and contribute to their fundraising effort. Their hopes were, however, crushed with even fewer locals showing up for the fundraising event.
The choir’s conductor Eliot Frank led the group on the evening’s first performance of “Feliz Navidad,” followed by the cheeky “Walking Round in Women’s Underwear,” “Santa Claus is coming to Town” and “Deck the Halls”; Jason Kliiger performed solo “The Night before Christmas.” Faculty Doctors Linton and McMillan performed a hilarious skit and Dr. Mishra impersonated the Grinch from the play “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” followed by Frank’s solo performance of the song with the same name. Students John Zakhary and Robyn Pierce performed “Bless the Broken Road.” Student Anh Bui performed a sultry vocal, “All I want for Christmas is you.” Deanna Gunson and Diego Accorsi performed a rhythmical vocal duet, “Baby it’s Cold Outside.” Meghan Stricker and Joe Soliman had a guitar-accompanied performance, “What are you doing New Year’s Eve?” Pontea Niaki and Dimitri Avgeropoulos performed a Pantomime Santa Skit, indicating that the meandering Mr. Claus may be under the watchful eyes of Mrs. Claus. In the second half of the programme, the choir accompanied by James Vaillant for one of the songs, sang “Love the one you’re with,” “Seasons of Love” and “With a little help from my friends.” In a comical twist, the choir played “The twelve days after Christmas,” a spoof on the romantic version of the traditional song. At the end, the students invited faculty on stage to sing together, “We wish you a Merry Christmas.” The evening was followed with a fundraiser auction.
