CBS launches the 2012-2013 National Accounts Survey on Saba and St. Eustatius

As of December 2014 all companies/foundations/sole proprietorships will receive a letter of the Statistics Netherlands (CBS) as part of the National Accounts Survey 2012-2013.

This is the first year since 10-10-2010 that the CBS will conduct the National Accounts Survey on all three islands of the Caribbean Netherlands. The objective of the research is to get insight into the economic development and business activity. The research will therefore be conducted on all three islands. Part of the entire research is a survey among companies.

CBS started this research and survey on Bonaire a year ago.

Some results from the 2012 research on Bonaire:

  • The gross domestic product (GDP) of Bonaire in 2012 was USD 372 million.
  • Consumer spending (by households and the government together) accounts for USD 310 million of this amount. The main items of household expenditure are expenditure on food (21 percent of household expenditure) and expenditure on rent, electricity and gas (also 21 percent).
  • Gross investments in 2012 amounted to USD 86 million.
  • The total export of goods and services was USD 181 million. The import of goods and services amounted to USD 205 million.

On Saba and St. Eustatius the research will also comprise a survey. This survey will cover the years 2012 and 2013 and all companies will be approached for this.

Your cooperation is of great importance in order to produce a representative picture of the island economies. Because of your cooperation the CBS will be able to publish similar data for Saba and St. Eustatius. Please contact us for more information and questions.
