Judge Mans appointed Court vice-president

The Daily Herald writes that St. Maarten based Judge Katja Mans has been appointed Vice-president of the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, St. Maarten and of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba.

The Kingdom Council of Ministers on Wednesday approved Mans’ appointment per August 1, based on a proposal of Dutch Minister of Justice and Security Ard van der Steur. Mans (1970) will carry out her new function from St. Maarten where she is stationed. The appointment of vice-president is temporary, because Mans wants to return to the Netherlands mid- 2016. Curaçao-based Evert- Jan van der Poel is President of the Joint Court of Justice.

The Kingdom Council of Ministers also approved the appointment of eight new members, including a new judge for St. Maarten. Judge A.J.J. van Rijen (1964) will take up his new job in St. Maarten per September 1. Van Reijen is currently a senior judge at the Rotterdam Court. Two current acting members of the Joint Court of Justice were appointed as new members per July 1. It concerns S.A. Carmelia (1977) and N.M. Martinez (1982), both of Dutch Caribbean descent. Three new judges from the Netherlands, P.E. de Kort (1967), D. Radder (1962) and M.B. van den Enden (1975) will be stationed in Curaçao per August 1. Two more judges, H.J. Fehmers (1967) and D. Haan (1958), will start in Curaçao on September 1.
