RCN explains: May 2nd is an official holiday in 2016

Each year, Labor Day is celebrated on May 1st. This year, May 1st is on a Sunday.

Subject to some legal exemptions, Arbeidswet 2000 BES (Labor Law) applies to employees with a 6-day working week with an annual income less than USD 30,771.00 on St. Eustatius and USD 31,083.00 on Saba and for employees with a 5-day or shorter working week with an annual income of less than USD 36,925.20 on St. Eustatius and USD 37,299.60 on Saba.

Article 23, paragraph 2 of the Arbeidswet 2000 BES (Labor Law):
Labor Day is celebrated annually on May 1st , unless that day falls on a Sunday or the birthday of the king is officially celebrated on that day, in which cases Labour Day is celebrated on the next working day.”
This means that May 2nd, 2016 is an official holiday on the islands of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba. However, this does not exclude the possibility that employees to whom the Arbeidswet 2000 BES applies, still (have to) work on that day but in that case the legal provisions on extra remuneration in connection with working on a holiday applies.
