Saba Roads and Construction B.V. (SRC) will commence with resurfacing of the Fort Bay Road on Monday, May 16, 2016. This project consists of the full resurfacing of the road approximately 1250 meters uphill. The scope of this project also includes the construction of 2 cisterns and installation of 3 water pumps alongside the road, which will supply water to the island’s capital, The Bottom.
Above the main cistern at the harbor SRC will construct a new pump station powerful enough to pump the water uphill and at about 1/3 of the distance up the road adjacent the new power plant a cistern will be constructed and the second pump installed.
At about 2/3 if the distance up the road a pump booster will be installed to boost the water flow even further uphill. As well the safety walls alongside the road will be renovated.
SRC and local authorities advise motorists and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution when maneuvering in the area throughout the duration of the project. The resurfacing work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Some inconveniences are expected, however the public’s full understanding and cooperation will be appreciated as the main access to the island’s harbor with its historically “s” shape construction is refurbished.
