Ferry “The Edge” to connect Saba to Statia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten – updated

Commissioner of Tourism, Bruce Zagers and Aquamania Adventures are happy to share the news that an agreement has been made for Aquamania Adventures to begin ferry services operated out of Saba. The agreement is for the provision of a ferry service between Saba and 3 other islands, on 5 days a week. This agreement would not be possible without the cooperation and assistance of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the Netherlands.

Starting on Thursday. October 5th. 2017, the Edge will be running a 3 times weekly ferry service between Saba, Statia and St. Kitts, on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The Edge will depart Saba at 7:30am and arrive in St. Kitts at 10:45 am at the Zante Port, with a stop in Statia, at 8:45am on the way. It will then depart from St. Kitts at 3:30pm for the return trip to Saba, also stopping in Statia. The stops in Statia will be based on necessity when there are passengers to disembark or reservations for persons to be picked up.

In addition to this, there will be a twice-weekly service between Saba and St. Maarten. The Edge will depart Saba on Mondays at 8:15am and will return on Wednesdays, departing St. Maarten at 3 pm from the Simpson Say dock of Aquamania Adventures. It will also make a day trip on Fridays departing Saba at 8:15am and St. Maarten at 3:30pm for the return trip.

Commissioner Zagers was very pleased with the finalization of this agreement. He stated, “Connectivity is important for Saba, as isolation can be a detriment to a small island’s economy. This ferry service provides the opportunity for visitors and locals alike to travel between the islands, creating the possibility for our tourism industry to survive during a difficult period. Already there are visitors who hope to visit during Saba’s annual event of Sea & learn. This service will ensure that this can happen and opens the gateway for more visitors to come.”

The Commissioner concluded by thanking the Ministry of Economic Affairs for their support. Without the cooperation of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, this new ferry service would not have been realistic and not possible. The Ministry understood the importance and quickly made the necessary arrangements to make it happen.

  1. Great!!
I think Saba is taking a bit of leadership in the region. That is excellent!!!
It is a very small island but that becomes great in the region, by the quality of the people. We must keep up with those unique values: generosity, organization, teamwork, honesty, solidarity, love for their island and care for their resources. To think also that we are an island that we depend on our neighbors and we need them too. Congratulations!!

  2. Yes, they are.

  3. This is fantastic.

  4. Is this service still happening at present
I am planning a island hopping tour from St. Martin to St. Kitt to Antigua.
What is the best way inexpensive way to journey

  5. No it isnt. It was a temporary service due to the 2017 hurricane. There is currently no public boat between Saba and Statia (I am currently on Saba)
