Over 720 persons register for COVID vaccine in Saba

More than 720 persons have thus far registered for the coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine in Saba, Island Governor Jona­than Johnson said Thursday afternoon. “I encourage 700 more to follow suit,” he added.

The vaccines are expected to arrive by mid-February. Behind the scenes, all stakeholders involved are making the necessary preparations and getting the logistics in order for the distribu­tion of the vaccines.

Currently, Saba is once again COV1D-19-free. As of Thursday, there were 28 people in quarantine. In the meantime, the infor­mation campaigns continue. “We know that Saba is a multi-cul­tural and multi-lingual community, so we have upcoming infor­mation sessions planned for our Spanish- and Creole-speaking residents. We want to inform everyone as much as possible to make an informed decision regarding the vaccine,” Governor Johnson said.

“I will continue to say that we have been each other’s protec­tors by following the measures and protocols for months. 1 hope we continue displaying that community approach by getting the vaccine and protecting ourselves, our families and each other.” He assured persons, who have registered either manually or digitally, that they are on the list for vaccination.

Although the virus broke out almost a year ago and there is a semblance of normalcy around the world, these are still uncer­tain times in which travelling became one of the most challeng­ing things since COVID-19 by far, Saba’s governor said.

St. Maarten has adapted and introduced a ban list for non­residents from specific destinations on Wednesday. “This is a perfect example of things changing overnight,” Johnson said. “Every country has different entry requirements, and depend­ing on the global situation, this can and does rapidly change. Everyone must consider these things when travelling.”
